Hoothoot

I'm Heidi, a Finn, and you may call me by my nickname Hootti (though but I'm not quite sure how that will be pronounced by a non-Finn so Heidi is fine too). I'm a Finnish cosplayer, huge anime fan and lover of anything chuunibyoo. By profession, I’m soonish graduating engineer of materials and surface treatment technologies (which means I know – theoretically – how people paint walls and what happens to iron when it is heated). After graduation I’m hoping to get a permanent job but due to recession I'm not quite sure how it will end up. My very realistic dream is to be a (non-Urobuchi-type) magical girl turned into a kirara-wielding AKB0048-idol. And world peace.

My love towards anime began in the end of 90s, due to Pokémon so one might say I'm part of the Pokémon generation. After that I got interested in Sailor Moon and CLAMP works and then my anime hobby sort of exploded. Now I'm watching around 40-80 series a year (5 to 10 from every season and also getting know to more unfamiliar works like retro mahou shoujo ja non-Tomino Gundam), leveling up my MyAnimelist anime and manga stats (if you have an account lets compare our similarities!), doing convention lectures of anime series and also doing some writing work for a national Anime magazine. I'm a great fan of Shoji Kawamori’s works, Keiko Takemiya’s Toward the Terra is the best manga ever, Kaoru Mori draws divine things (and I love her maids) and when it comes to good noitaminA-slot anime, no one can stop me. Also Sound Horizon (known as Linked Horizon from recent Shingeki no Kyojin anime-OP’s and the game Bravely Default soundtrack) is the best musical thing ever and meeting Revo-heika would be a dream come true.

My cosplay hobby which I began ten years ago - in 2004 - stems from anime. I mainly cosplay anime characters, usually from newer series. Sometimes I also do game cosplay like from Atlus’ Etrian Odyssey which I quite love for its designs. With a body of a 14 year old boy it's usually easy to pick schoolgirl characters and thus make a great contrast with Maria who mostly does older female types. By Genshiken (manga and anime series by Kio Shimoku) rules of cosplay, I'd be a great Ogiue Chika and Ilona could easily play cosplay aficionado Kanako Ohno. Though I'm not into BL. I have a weakness towards capes and for my WCS costumes I do wish to have at least three characters with them. After our ideas concretize, we will be telling about the planned characters. With our costuming habits (meaning 4-10 costumes per convention) there will be lot a of plans. Stay tuned!

By no means I’m a talented costumer. There are plenty of people who make awesome props, mind-blowingly intricate dresses and gravity defying wigs and I don't consider myself to be a part of that group. I admire them and would like be like them but sadly I'm not very artistically inclined. So I'm really happy in just being a person who loves anime so much that she has to cosplay things she loves and make them as well as she is able to. I do think thought that I have talent to make things better. I love to evolve ideas into concrete things and am willing to help with making a better local cosplay scene (and perhaps international). I have done plenty of gophering work for many competitions and conventions and will be doing that in the future too.

This love towards anime and towards cosplay is the thing I want to share with other people from all over the world. I'm hoping to meet other cosplayers and have conversations about anime and everything. Let’s have an awesome adventure!

Some random facts:

Drink of choice: Pepsi Max, I'm known for drinking it everywhere. But it's so good! (Maybe a local producer will become our sponsor! Or maybe not.)

Special talent: I'm very good at running away from cameras. This is why I don't have that many good pictures of myself.

Favorite animal: I'm a huge lover of cats and owls and tawny frogmouths. I have a cat called Kissa (cat in Finnish, so very original) but unfortunately an owl is out of bounds ;___;

Fun Not so fun fact: Even if I look like I'm very angry or feel unwell or hate everything that has ever walked on the Earth that's usually not the case. It's just my face. My beau calls it my customer service face.
